I do like writing, though, and I'd like some sort of creative outlet. I've recently been convinced that maybe self-expression isn't such a terrible or scary thing. Maybe I do have things worth saying, even worth reading. I'm not keen on broadcasting my thoughts to the world just yet via Facebook or Google+, but I figure a blog like this is a good compromise since visiting and reading it is purely voluntary. Baby steps, people.
So why "pukthots"? Well, "Puk" was my pseudonym growing up. I'm one of 8 kids, and apparently there were disputes among us from time to time. Go figure. So my mom, in her genius, figured out a way to tell us stories with morals by describing pretty much exactly what we had done wrong, while substituting our names with fictional ones. Bryan was Hoogli, Rachel was Poogli, I was Puk, and Sarah was Muk (ouch). And then I think we must have caught on by then or something, because none of the other kids got alter egos, poor things.
I'm not really sure why I still use this name, though. I bet it has something to do with my inner psyche, like maybe I secretly wish I were in that alternate fictional dimension where everything I did had some sort of moral significance.
Actually I just think the name's funny.

So here you have it folks. Pukthots: A Collection of Riveting Ruminations by Nathan J. Lowe. Take 'em or leave 'em. Oh, and feel free to turn off the music below. Sorry, leaving that gadget out would have been a crime.
I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!! Also, you have an awesome writing voice! Can't wait for the next. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteyes, keep thinking out loud for us!
ReplyDeletealso, is it Puk like Puck? or Puk like Puke?
thanks
It's pronounced "Puck". I think my mom intended to be spelled that way too, but again, I thought it was a funnier name without the 'c'.
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I just stumbled on this from your facebook page. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts. I love the look and the crazy walking guy behind your title. You're a funny guy (insert Spanish accent while saying that last line).
ReplyDeleteDo you share anything in common with this Puck?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puck_(Shakespeare)
